You know what I realized? That I eat a LOT of meals out of bowls. Like today, for instance… breakfast, lunch and dinner. Is that weird?
First off: Pumpkin Oats
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup skim milk
- 1/2 cup pumpkin (added towards the end)
- vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg and a little salt
Topped with some unsweetened coconut, raw trail mix… and a few chocolate chips for flair.
Today was GORGEOUS. It was in the 70′s most of the afternoon, so I did a little patio “pleasure reading”. Just kidding; it was all about handwashing procedures- 20 seconds at 100 degrees- and buying seafood from reputable sources… for class, obviously.
Lunch was random. I just threw some leftover brown rice, lentils, steamed veggies (from Chinese takeout on Saturday), baked tofu, guacamole, plain yogurt, sriracha and pickled jalapenos in a bowl.
That looks kind of gross. But it was tasty, I swear.
I never knew you could buy canned lentils! Not as good as home-prepared, but good in a pinch:
Since it’s Slow Cooker Monday, I decided to try this recipe from Food Network for Slow Cooker Chicken Chili. I couldn’t find any ground chicken at the store, so I used 1.25 lbs of lean ground turkey instead. I also added a few extra ingredients: Chipotle Tabasco, an extra sweet potato (to make up for the lack of meat), and some Liquid Smoke. Cooked on high for 4 hours and served with a couple of Hodgson Mill Whole Grain Cornbread muffins.
It was good, but thinner than my usual chili. The sweet potatoes were a nice touch.
You’ll notice that the recipe calls for 3/4 cup of beer to be added before serving. What did we use?
Rahr Ugly Pug Lager, of course! Chloe’s cuter than that guy, right?
Awwww… we’ve embarrassed her. I have no idea how she breathes like this.
Off to bed- 5:45 track workout in the AM: 5 x 1200′s. Night!

I prefer meals in bowls. They’re more comfortable I think.
I definitely eat most of my meals out of bowls! I love it when you can just throw a bunch of random ingredients in and come out with something delicious – your breakfast, lunch AND dinner are all good examples of this!
Cornbread! I love cornbread!!
Chloe is so much cuter
Check out my paper plate collection!!! I know how ghetto – but mommy is the dishwasher too. I will admit that using pretty plates & bowls makes the meal feel very homey.
Chloe is awesome – since when is she camera shy? : )
Lurve your pup. Such a little pumpkin.
Bowl meals are the best! And that oatmeal looks so decadent – yum!
I enjoy days lived out of bowls – great eats today, especially your slowcooker Chicken Chili.
Hope you have a good workout this morning!
Man… Chloe… How DO you breathe?
Can’t wait to unearth my slow cooker
I need to make more lentils, too! oh no–ugly pug
I eat lots of meals out of bowls too.. breakfast lunch and afternoon snack are almost always out of bowls. maybe because it is just so comforting, plus those types of meals take longer to eat.
hope the workout was great this morning! i sure enjoyed leaving for my run with temps in the 60s!!! good times.
and i just wanted to tell brian that i was wrong about bubba’s- they promise they’re here to stay, which makes us law students quite happy
I ALWAYS eat out of bowls!!! My hubby kind of makes fun of me for it, but it makes me happy. Your meals look delish, btw!
That picture of Chloe made my day:)
Ohh man all that food looks great… guac is my fav addition to make things taste good and add some healthy fats! Love the pic!
Pugs rock! Gonna try the pumpkin thing.
I eat everything out of bowls! My husband is always complaining that all the bowls are dirty!
All your bowl meals look delicious!
Luuurve Ugly Pug Beer. There’s a bar in Downtown Fort Worth that has it on tap, so I always have to go there when I visit. My dad sent me the six pack cardboard and I have it on my fridge. Sadly, that illustration isn’t far off from what most pugs look like. Chloe is the exception.
