Crock Pot, You've Failed Me

Today was kind of uneventful (wow, now you really want to keep reading- right?). Breakfast was a random mixture:

  • 1 cup Fage
  • 1/4 Pomegranate Granola Plank
  • About 2 Tbs Trail Mix
  • Honey

Eaten in front of the computer as I finally got to catch up on blog reading. After breakfast I headed to the gym. I hate the gym, but my training schedule called for “0-90 minutes of XT” (i.e., no running). So I did 20 minutes on the bike while reading some highbrow literature (Chasing Harry Winston) and then another 20 minutes of weights.

Lunch was yet another random assortment:

  • Tuna Cup
  • Wheatberries
  • Cannelini Beans
  • Pickled Asparagus
  • Capers
  • Balsamic Vinegar

Served with some Mr. Krisper’s Salt & Pepper Rice Crackers and Sabra Hummus. Mr. Krisper’s rock- you get like 40 crackers in a serving. Anything that you can eat 40 of for under 120 calories is a winner.

After lunch I braved the attic and dragged down some Halloween decorations. I managed to get a wreath up and a couple of light-up pumpkins in the windows. We have a bunch of other decorations passed down from my mom, but I’m kind of out of surfaces at this point. I debated putting our light-up haunted house on the back of the toilet but decided that might be a little off-putting. OH- here’s the shot of our porch I promised… you can kind of make out the pumpkins in the garage windows:

Sorry to report that Slow Cooker Monday was a big, fat failure this week :( Brian requested a buffalo chicken crock pot recipe, so I found this one online and planned on making chicken sandwiches. Except that it was, well, yucky.

The chicken was tender, but super spicy and without much in the way of flavor. I’ll probably end up using the meat for wraps or salads. Because I know you guys were waiting on pins and needles for today’s slow cooker recipe and I would hate to disappoint you, let’s pretend that this B.S. recipe never happened and I had made this instead… because I’ve made it before and it is FABULOUS (just use bleu cheese dressing instead of ranch).

How freaking cute is that? I don’t even think I could eat one; they’re just too precious. Awww.

SURVEY TIME:

What is/was your favorite Halloween candy? Which ones did you hate?

Obviously now I heart candy corn, but I always loved getting those little flavored Tootsie Rolls (the fruity kind) and the Hershey’s Special Dark bars, too. I hated Smarties. Gross.

I hated smarties too! I did however LOVE sugardaddies! mmm. That just might be my favorite. And fundip. That was a rare halloween treat too. Ooh and bottle caps! i LOVE bottle caps-especially root beer flavored. I also really like laffy taffy…okay I am starting to sound a little pathetic so I am stopping.

  2. ttfn300 says:

bummer on that recipe! hate it when that happens… and i’m right there with you on those crackers–40?!?

hmm, i can’t remember what i went for as a kid, i did like smarties though and i ate them in certain color pairs :) i probably went for snickers or twix!!

  3. Rose says:

Remember the Fifth Avenue bars? Or something like that? Totally my fav, even though I can’t remember the name now.

Your house looks ready to go for Halloween! Oh, and that random assortment at lunch looks pretty tasty…

  4. Brian says:

I always liked the mini reese’s peanut butter cups. For whatever reason, they were better than the full-sized version.

You know what candy sucked? Fireballs. Those things were like the chicken last night: hot with no flavor. It seemed that every house in the neighborhood gave them out too.

That’s a crappy picture of our porch. Makes our house look like a trailer.

  5. heatherwlu says:

What do you mean, Bri? We DO live in a trailer. But yeah, it is a crappy photo. The left side of the porch looks sad and those stupid posts make me want to hurl. But the pomegranate bush looks nice.

  6. klemons says:

I love candy corn too, not all year just at Halloween! Otherwise I love sweet tarts (in the 3 pack, although one is always a yucky orange or yellow) and blow pops…oh and gum I love super bubble and the flavored gum.

Sorry about the crock pot recipe! If you like buffalo chicken, there is an amazing dip (not low cal though!):

2 (10 ounce) cans chunk chicken, drained
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
    1 cup Ranch dressing
3/4 cup pepper sauce, such as FranksĀ® Red HotĀ®
1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

1 bunch celery, cleaned and cut into 4 inch pieces
    tortilla chips for dipping

    DIRECTIONS
Heat chicken and hot sauce in a skillet over medium heat, until heated through. Stir in cream cheese and ranch dressing. Cook, stirring until well blended and warm. Mix in half of the shredded cheese, and transfer the mixture to a slow cooker. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top, cover, and cook on Low setting until hot and bubbly. Serve with celery sticks and tortilla chips.

I am diabetic, so I’ll skip the Halloween candy question, but when I was little, it was Heath bars!

Your yogurt concoction looks great. Love the decorations – so festive. What’s wrong with living in a trailer? I lived in one in Florida when I was a kid. My huz likes to tease me that he married trailer trash. Once we drove by a trailer park and he asked me if I wanted him to pull in so I could go back to my roots – yeah, he is a character.
I am a candy corn fan too but have resisted spending the whole 99 cents on a bag. I would probably eat the entire thing myself (not all at once I hope) – I love small sugary snackies. As a kid I liked whatever candy my mom would allow me to eat – she was pretty strict when it came to that sort of thing.
Brian – my huz thinks the mini Reese’s are better too, I’ll have to ask him why.

  9. Erin says:

ARE YOU SERIOUS? THAT PEPPER IS OFF THE CHAYYYYYYYYNNNNNNNNNNN!
I actually WAS waiting on pins and needles, and it hurt.
I’m looking for those crackers! I like to get a lot of volume for my calorie too!

  10. Heather says:

Ohhh, I loved sugar daddies and sugar babbies. And Skittles, those have been my favorite forever but now they kinda make my teeth hurt. :(

  11. maggieb says:

What I hated getting in my Halloween pumpkin was Tootsie Rolls. That’s not real chocolate! My favorite was the little packets of Sweet Tarts (3 to a pack you know). Of course I always love the real chocolate candies…especially Butterfingers.

  12. bcgirl says:

I never really liked the sugary candy – even as a kid I was all over the chocolaty goodness of Kit Kat’s….Coffee Crisp…..Aero…..M&M’s. Shall I go on?

  13. Hangry Pants says:

Nice pumpkins! My favorite candy was Snickers. I gave away mounds and almond jobs. I also loved Kit Kats and didn’t like Reeses!

  14. Lisa P says:

Candy Corn all the way! Mini Snickers also make me smile…in fact, whenever I taste a Snickers bar, I am reminded of childhood Halloweens :)
