Hope everyone is having a lovely morning! Is anyone else having crazy allergy problems? I woke up sneezing, and Chloe’s fighting some kind of upper respiratory infection right now, too. It’s so sad- I took her to the vet yesterday morning and they gave her a couple injections of antibiotics and kept her there all day. She had a high fever that started to go down and then went back up again. She’s back home now and we have her on two different types of antibiotics. Poor little puglet. She’s so mopey and is obviously having a really hard time breathing through her nose (breathing through her mouth and snoring MUCH more than usual). She also won’t take her pills, despite us hiding them in peanut butter, cheese, ice cream and a Wendy’s hamburger.
Breakfast yesterday was a litle rushed, given the vet visit. I bought Brian a few frozen breakfast sandwiches at Target and then “forgot” to tell him about them… so I had one yesterday:

Egg whites, spinach, and cheese on some kind of whole wheat wrap. It was actually not bad at all, though not all that filling either. But good in a pinch.

A few of the Dallas food blogs I read (Dallas Eats had a full review, and Gammypie also mentioned eating there) had rave reviews about the new Chocolate Angel Too at Preston & Forest. My mom and I ventured over there for lunch yesterday. I ordered the Angel Trio with Chicken and Rice Soup, Chicken Salad Sandwich and Nana’s Strawberry Pretzel Congealed Salad.

The soup was amazing. I thought it would be a healthy choice but was obviously mistaken on that one. No broth base here. It’s super creamy; picture chicken and dumplings minus the dumpling. The chicken salad was good too (lots of curry), though I had buyers remorse for not ordering pimento cheese instead. Although it’s generally best to avoid anything containing the word “congealed” (IMO), the strawberry salad is actually the best part. The top layer is strawberry gelatin, followed by cream cheese, and then my fave: a sweet-salty layer of crunchy pretzels. Mmmm. I went in with the intention of ordering a slice of Coca-Cola Cake, too- but I didn’t see it out on display and the strawberry salad was a good enough dessert for me.
Despite the intent to eat at home more, yesterday was a day of restaurants. Because of everything going on with my grandmother, the family hadn’t had a chance to celebrate Brian’s birthday… so we met my parents, grandparents, brother and his girlfriend at Sevan G&G Cafe, a Mediterranean hole-in-the-wall on Greenville Ave. My parents love it because it “reminds them of Chicago.” We love it because it’s BYOB. And the food is good, too.
We started with the Mazza Plate: Hummus, Baba Ghanoush (amazing), Tabbouleh, Dolmas and Pita.

Brian and I split a Greek Salad:

And then I had the Pistachio Chicken for my entree. If you eat here, you must try this. It’s a chicken breast stuffed with feta and coated in pistachio pieces, then topped with tomato sauce. The vermicelli rice is delicious, too.

Hope everyone has a great day! I’ll keep you guys posted on Chloe.

What’s your all-time favorite candy?
Full disclosure: I just started reading Candyfreak so I have sweets on the brain. The book is hilarious, by the way. (I like all candy- Skittles, Hot Tamales, M&M’s, Hershey Kisses…)

Love your blog! The food from the Mediterranean cafe looks wonderful… my hubby and I will have to give that a try! We’re always on the lookout for new places to eat (we are also in the area
)
Oh, and my all time favorite candy is reeses peanut butter cups
Snickers and airheads.
I’ve been meaning to try G&G.
Entsrom’s Toffee is my favorite.
Fav candy bar = Take 5. Probably because it has pretzels in it. As a kid, I LOVED nerds – something about the dual sides.
I’m going to be in Dallas next month – are there any good veg/vegan restaurants or is there a good website to look up restaurants besides the ones you mentioned?
Andrea- YES! Spiral Diner (http://www.spiraldiner.com/) is amazing. There’s one in Oak Cliff and one in FW. Also Cosmic Cafe (http://www.cosmiccafedallas.com/). You can search restaurants on Guidelive.com and I think there’s a vegetarian category. When are you going to be in Dallas??
That jello salad looks insane!
omg you brought me back with the strawberry pretzel salad
chocolate (only when i crave it) SKOR bar
other than that… nerds, skittles, starburst lolipops, sour peaches!
Thanks for the info! I think I’ve heard of Spiral Diner before and I will definitely be checking out the other ones.
They would have loved to meet Chloe! She looks like she’d be a real cougar!
I’m going to be in Dallas from Feb 26th-Mar 5th. My Dad and I are doing the Cowtown 10k on the 28th. We were hoping to bring the puggies, but it looks like they’re going to have to stay behind
If you’re up for lunch one day, we should meet up! I’m always interested in meeting fellow bloggers!
P.S. Erin is hoping to come to Dallas that weekend too!
FYI – The picture above of the Mazza plate doesn’t do it justice. We all started digging in before Heather could get a picture. The presentation is much better and there is considerably more food on it.
My favorite candy is also the Reese’s PB cup.
Otto sends healthy hugs and kisses to Chloe.
I am a huge Mike & Ike fan and I love Fruit Slices – gotta love the crunchy sugar coating. I would take fruity gummy candy over chocolate any day – mmmm, sugar high : )
Woah, that jello salad looks so bizarre, but I’ll take your word that it’s good! And I don’t each much candy…does ice cream count?
It is nearly impossible to come up with my favorite candy. If I had to, I would say seasonal Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (i.e. the Christmas Trees, The Easter Eggs, The Valentine’s Hearts, etc). I like these more than the standard Reese’s because they have more peanut butter in them.
Ok…I’m delurking to comment about the Chocolate Angel. I LOVE that place. My mom, Lisa, and I just went there for lunch last week. We even decided to have Lisa’s bridal shower there in March! And the strawberry pretzel salad rocks my world. SO good. There’s a recipe on Allrecipes that is basically the same thing. I made it the other day…and yum!
I’m so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My mom’s mother also had alzheimers and passed away a few years ago. Please send my condolences to Gina as well.
Anyways, I love the blog! I’ll try to comment more frequently!
Carolyn!! I didn’t know you read the blog. You should definitely delurk more often… I’ll have to find that recipe on allrecipes.
