I can’t stop yawning right now. Didn’t get to bed until after midnight (more on that later…) and then was up at 5 for a short run. My running buddies are tapering right now in preparation for the Cowtown Marathon this weekend. Joy’s running the half, too, and we’re planning on going to cheer them on. I decided to sit this one out but I know I’ll be sad once I get there and see all of the excitement. Races are so much fun…
Anyway, nothing sounded good for breakfast yesterday so I had an old favorite: apple with super-crunchy PB, along with some raspberries that needed to be consumed ASAP.

I ate so many apples with PB in college, it’s not even funny. Perfect snack.
For lunch I met my mom and Subway and split a (5….$5….$5 footlong) turkey sub with tons of veggies and a side of Sour Cream & Onion Baked Lays. She was like, “Um, do you really need to take a photo of a Subway sandwich?”

Consistency, mom. Consistency.
My dad ended up scoring 4 tickets to the Mavs game last night. He offered them to us and my brother, but Zach had to work so we had a hot double date with my parents.
I’m more of a sport-playing gal (well, running) as opposed to sport-watching, but Mavs games are fun. They’re great for people watching. And eating.

Speaking of eating, here the smoked chicken flatbread I had for dinner.

Brian was a good Catholic yesterday and abstained from meat. He cheerfully informed me that I could eat all of the chicken flatbread I wanted in hell.
I should have gone with the cheese pizza. The pita was actually pretty gross. I think I’ve stated my opinion before on fast food chicken. It’s kind of a crapshoot, unless it’s:
a. Fried
b. From Chick Fil A
This chicken was none of the above… and therefore kind of nasty.
I made up for it with the world’s largest chocolate frozen yogurt. With sprinkles.

My parents split a yogurt, too. Look how happy my dad is with his little dessert:

Aww. It’s the little things, right dad?
So of course we had to watch Tivo’d Top Chef when we got home. If you haven’t watched it yet, stop reading here.

Okay, WHAT?? I am beyond bummed and annoyed right now. First of all, Hosea was my least favorite of pretty much anyone this season. He’s eeked through on uninspired, so-so dishes (not bottom 3, but not top 3 either) for the entire season. All he seemed to care about was beating Stephan. Stephan is kind of an ass, but at least he’s confident, creative and an obviously skilled chef.
Carla was by far my favorite and it broke my heart to see her lose confidence in the finale. Casey pretty much steamrolled her. I love Casey and do think she’s a great chef… but obviously not the best pick for a SOUS chef (I can’t imagine how she must feel watching that finale). Carla had been really strong the last half of this season and could have easily come out as the underdog winner. The appetizer and first course- her dishes- were a hit; why she gave the go-ahead on an unfamiliar cooking method for the main course is beyond me. It was painful to watch.
Oh well, at least she’ll win fan favorite.
And was it just me, or did the previous contestants look SHOCKED afterwards? Jeff in particular seemed devastated.
Okay, enough with the whining. But is anyone happy with the results?

Top Chef reactions?
Sorry, I had to ask.

I agree with you. I was so sad for Carla. I just think she was overwhelmed and had to much trust in Casey. Carla should be the fan fav for sure.
But did you watch the Real Housewives of Orange County – Confess? Talking about a train wreck ! What evil women. Who needs enemies when you have friends like Vicki and Tamara.
Okay, missy, we’re going to have to have a talk about all these delicious dessert pics lately – I’m having a hard time psyching up for oatmeal after drooling over that fro yo!
I’ll admit it, I wanted Stephan to win. He is arrogant, but he is consistently good, so I thought he should win. It just really seemed that Tom was not able to stay objective with him in the finale, as it seems he has a problem with his confidence and/or personality in general. Oh well…
Spiral, huh? Awesome! I heard their new blue plate (starting next week??) is going to be amazing!
ah, yeah, i couldn’t believe casey. or carla, for that matter, who said i need to cook the food that got me here. then go and do something you’ve never done before? i can say ok to the souffle, but not the disaster that was the beef. hosea? meh… but i did hate stefan
i told my sister the commercial before that i want carla to win, although i think stefan would win and i would be shocked if hosea won.
my jaw dropped to the floor. i don’t know why they picked him maybe they will talk about it in the reunion cause i really don’t get how he even made it this far!
My reaction? Ugh. Hosea was by no means close to being a favorite for me. He didn’t stand out all season.
In hindsight, I don’t think this was one of Top Chef’s better seasons.
PS: Totally wish I lived in Dallas this weekend!
I think we can all agree that Carla couldn’t win last night. If she had won, Top Chef loses all credibility.
That said, I thought Stefan should have won on ability and on personal grounds. Everyone hates on Stefan because he is cocky and confrontational, but I believe he is a better person than Hosea. When Carla was upset, it was Stefan who comforted her while Hosea sat there, almost smirking because he could sense that he was about to win. Hosea became petty in his feud with Stefan, while Stefan was just feeding off the fun of the competition. Finally, Hosea is a dirtbag who cheated on his girlfriend.
Wasn’t that like his 500th scallop dish this season, too? Whatever. First winner I didn’t think deserved it.
Hi – new commenter here! I have to say I totally agree on your Top Chef reaction. Even the judges looked disappointed to give it to Hosea but they obviously had no choice. I think they were really internally rooting for Carla as well. I dont know how her confidence faltered so much that she lost a whole sense of her cooking style – anyway, she is a champion in my mind. As for Hosea, no interest in his cooking at all- he was mediocre throughout and won by default. This was one time where I definitely felt they should look at the overall season, not the one meal. And seeing leah run in and practically plant one right on him! Ugh, classic.
Susan- No, I don’t really follow the Real Housewives, though I’ve caught a few episodes on Bravo. Maybe I should add that to my line-up?
Katie- So that WAS Leah who ran up at and kissed Hosea at the end?? I couldn’t tell for sure. Ugh.
you bet Leah and Hosea kissed right on the lips. Whatever. Casey responded to last night’s show. You’ve gotta read it.

Molly- I saw that!!! I actually left a comment on the post this morning, but when I just tried to pull Side Dish up it says there is a server error. I’m going to post that link tonight…
Dang it! I totally missed the deal about the brunch. Well, maybe next time!
Top Chef was a real letdown–oh the drama with Casey’s letter…thx for filling me in! Stefan was a better chef, but his cockiness was a turnoff…but overall, TC was a bit boring this year. Hosea’s win was just well, BORING. But i did love the finale being in N.O.
And darn! I missed the info about your blog lunch…just now catching up on my foodie blogs. Hopefully next time!
