Got My Mojo Back

I loved reading all of your old-school (literally) cafeteria faves… though I’m not sure what a butter sandwich is, and am more than a little jealous that Erin’s cafeteria served soft pretzels. We had Hot Pockets in HS and thought that was cool.

Yesterday I visited my super-secret Super Target. This one is about 10 minutes from my house (as opposed to 5 for our usual Super-T) but for some reason is NEVER crowded and always has goodies that I can’t find anywhere else. Like yesterday, for instance, they had Clif Mojo bars!! These used to be everywhere, but in the past few weeks I’ve checked Whole Foods, Central Market, 7-Eleven, GreenSpot, and Newflower and no one has them in stock. I think Eddie said that it might have been as a result of the whole peanut debacle, so hopefully these aren’t tained with salmonella.

Anyway, this morning’s breakfast prominently featured the beloved Mojo… along with some milk, apple slices, and clementines:

This morning was our midterm in Hospitality Supervision and afterwards we had a guest speaker, David Cole from i Fratelli. David’s an El Centro grad and gave some great advice on starting and running a business… AND he had pizza delivered to the class. Sweet. I’ve never actually eaten at i Fratelli, but judging by the pizza it’s definitely worth a visit.

In Pastry we baked a couple of devils food cakes, which will be frozen in preparation for a peanut butter mousse cake we’re putting together next week. Yesterday we baked ladyfingers and today they were used to assemble a tiramisu. Am I the only person on the planet who doesn’t like tiramisu? I think I want it to taste like chocolate. And sadly, it does not.

Lunch was a veggie sandwich: hummus, red peppers, romaine and pickles on whole wheat.

This evening I threw together a little somethin-somethin for Wednesday night’s book club (pics tomorrow), so sweet Brian ended up cooking dinner. Turkey tacos… taco salad for me: romaine, cheddar, taco meat, avocado, tomatoes, sour cream and salsa. Along with a crispy taco afterwards:

Off to shower and then hit the hay. Four mile run EARLY tomorrow morning!

Are there any desserts/dishes that you don’t care for but everyone else seems to like?

I don’t like fruit pies. I think fruit should be for fruit and dessert should be for chocolate.

  2. Jess says:

I have to agree with the pie and I also dont like egg rolls which makes me feel like an outcast!

  3. Eddie G says:

My entire family loves flan, but I think it’s kinda gross.

  4. gammypie says:

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a single dessert that I don’t like. I prefer some over others, but that’s about it.

  5. Susan says:

I HATE/LOATHE Banana Pudding, but that is because i hate bananas. I know..weird
and I am not fond of Coconut Cream Pie/Cake, Etc…

  6. Katherine says:

Brownies, especially those with nuts. And any cake with fruit filling….not neccessarily whole fruit but fruit paste (yuck), I like Angel Food Cake with Strawberries though.

  7. Momcat says:

    Hi, Heather,
With you on tiramisu. Coffee with dessert – perfect. Coffee in dessert – not so much.

Here’s my big quirk – I hate cinnamon – can’t even stand the smell. So any dessert that involves cinnamon is way off my list!

  8. Tammy says:

So glad to find a compadre on the tiramisu. Hate it. Hate it. Unfortunately, the only dessert I can’t stand. :(

  9. Kathy says:

Susan, my husband eats bananas alone but hates them in banana pudding (go figure!) so we make him a corner with no bananas and call it “cookie pudding”! Unfortunately, I like it either way – especially my mom’s, which is NOT made with boxed vanilla pudding (yuck!) but hers is YUM!

  10. Joy says:

Bread pudding (YUCK!) Although maybe everyone hates bread pudding…?

  11. Christina says:

I don’t like pies and other desserts with fruit fillings–with the huge exception of peach cobbler.

    Joy-I like bread pudding

  12. Emlod10 says:

creme brulee .. i don’t get it. its just straight sugar (thats burned on the top) that goes down way too fast…no time for enjoyment. i’m with you on tiramisu.

  13. Brian says:

I can’t stand chocolate milk or chocolate ice cream. Just don’t like it. Chocolate bars/candy is fine though.

  14. Allison says:

I hate pudding. Refuse to eat it. Hated it as a child and still hate it.

Apparently, I feel a lot stronger about pudding than I thought. See you at book club!! Can’t wait to try more of your goodies!!
