Sunday night already??
I think I listed all of the hors d’oeuvres that we were planning to make in class on Friday. Luckily we ended up dividing them up so that each group was only actually responsible for 2 appetizers. Our group chose prosciutto-wrapped seared scallops and spanakopita triangles.
Check out the spread- pretty amazing, huh? Unfortunately I was still feeling pretty crappy on Friday (I almost ducked out at 8:30) and didn’t feel like eating much.
My favorite were the smoked chicken and sun-dried tomato purses.
The rest of Friday was spent gloriously SLEEPING to try and get rid of this cold. It was rainy and gross out- perfect nap weather. For dinner we met my brother, his girlfriend and roomate and my parents at Gloria’s on Greenville. I hadn’t been there since they expanded and remodeled… very nice! I’m not even embarassed to admit how excited we were about the super cool Dyson hand dryers in the bathrooms.
I had the “Gloria’s Super Special“: chicken tamale, pupusa, yucca, black beans, rice and plantain (my favorite).
We were searching for a shower gift but ended up stopping for lunch first at Texadelphia. My chicken cheesesteak with waffle fries:
Followed by stops at World Market, the liquor store, and an extended visit to my home away from home- Northpark (ahhhh). The mall was pretty much bananas thanks to the not-so-nice weather this weekend.
The rest of Saturday was spent driving to Plano for a fun stock-the-bar shower, and possibly a late night sushi stop on the way back to Dallas. Then we came home, Brian passed out, and Chloe and I watched the end of the 2nd Bridget Jones movie. You know, the one where she ends up in a Thai prison? What, you don’t remember? Yeah, that’s because it was awful.
We had a very exciting morning. A friend tipped me off to this cute donut shop, which I then remembered seeing on DailyCandy a while back: Yummy Donuts.
It’s in Highland Park, on Lovers just East of the Tollway. It’s kind of like if Sprinkles and Pinkberry had a love child, who then married Dunkin Donuts. Got it? Cute, modern decor; lots of hot pink, orange and white; and trendy flavors. I had part of a Cookie Dough Donut (devils food topped with vanilla frosting and chocolate chips), half of a Yummy Boy (boy-shaped yeast donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles) and some donut holes.
We got there around 11 and they had already sold out of several flavors. We’ll definitely be back.
The rest of today was spent grocery shopping at Newflower, working in the yard (Bri), cleaning the house (me) and then heading out to McKinney for my aunt’s birthday party.
(Geez, I ate a lot of crap this weekend.)
Apparently I was tagged by the lovely Rose of On A Lobster Placemat for the “Survey of 8′s.” This one seems kind of fun… so here goes!
