Stuffed to the Gills

Ah, Sunday nights. I’m stuffed from an entire weekend of eating!

*FRIDAY*

My parents gave me some Northpark Gold (like a gift certificate that you can use at any store in the mall) for my birthday, so Friday I was excited to do a little shopping. But first I met Brian for lunch at the cafe in Central Market. We usually just grab something from the prepared foods section, but the cafe menu was amazing! And I love the eating area- it’s so bright and busy. I had the Mediterranean Chicken Wrap with fries:

And stole a piece of Brian’s sausage pizza. Afterwards I hit up Northpark as planned. Unfortunately the mall doesn’t really have much in the way of maternity clothes. Gap has a small maternity section, Ann Taylor Loft used to but doesn’t anymore, and NONE of the department stores carry maternity. Luckily anthropologie was having a huge sale, and I found a top (fixed the link- it’s this one in green) that should work for at least a few months. Of course I somehow ended up at Sephora, too- and walked out with yet another tinted lip balm that I don’t need.

No photos from class because my cakes were hideous. We worked on tracing pictures onto the cakes using an overhead projector- you basically just pipe the outline in black gel icing and then airbrush inside the lines with color. I’m not a fan of airbrushed cakes in general (except for the hamburger cake, of course), and these were just fugly.

*SATURDAY*

Brian’s parents were in from South Carolina and spent the day with us on Saturday. Before heading out for the day, I threw together a quick breakfast of an Ezekiel english muffin with PB and jelly- and a side of fruit:

We spent the day browsing Sam Moon (dear god that place is awful on weekends), driving around town, and checking out plants at Lowe’s. Our little front garden is in a sad state at the moment. It’s not even June and all of our flowers are scorched. For dinner we drove out to the Bishop Arts District for tapas at Cafe Madrid and ended up sharing about 8 different plates.

Chorizo in white wine and garlic with bread:

Fried goat cheese with honey and carmelized onions, grilled portabella, fried shrimp, meatballs with almond sauce, and a beef skewer:

And finally, eggplant with manchego cheese and white asparagus with vinaigrette:

My favorites were the goat cheese and the chorizo. On the way home we took the in-laws by Yogilicious for some fro-yo. I had the taro and green tea with mini choc chips, mango and kiwi. Can you tell how much we love this place? Last weekend we ran into one of Brian’s coworkers at Yogilicious, and he said that it was his 2nd trip there that day. Addictive, I tell you.

*SUNDAY*

This morning we drove to Southlake for brunch with Brian’s parents, his sister and her husband, and our two cute nieces. For those of you who haven’t been to Blue Mesa for the brunch buffet: GO NOW. Er, next Sunday I guess. For about $16 per person, you get pretty much everything on their menu and bottomless mimosas (not for me, sadly). And if you sign up for their mailing list, they’ll send you coupon for a free buffet around your b-day.

Plate #1: migas, huevos rancheros, sausage, potatoes, chicken enchilada:

I went back for round two AND dessert, but no photos. Sorry, kids.

Oh, before I forget- the rest of my birthday present from Brian came in the mail on Friday:

Cupcake Converse!! Aren’t they perfect? I can’t wait to wear them.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

*SURVEY*

Did anyone see Dr. Oz on Oprah last week discussing detox diets? It may have been a rerun. He discusses the results of a study that basically concluded that detox diets (eating and drinking only fruits and veggies; no processed foods, sugar, caffeine, etc.) have no effect on the body. So…

What is your opinion on detox diets? Do you think they work? Have you tried one and did you feel any different afterwards?
