I am SO HAPPY because tomorrow I get to sleep in! Woohoo! I’ve been up at 6 or before every morning this week. Is it sad that I’m this excited about sleep? Don’t answer that.
Breakfast was lazy this morning. Let’s call it the Elvis Special: peanut butter, banana and honey on whole wheat, with a big ole glass of milk.

(Look at that oooooooze of honey!)
Lunch was a giant disappointment. I bought this soup at Target the other day:

And ate it with a toasted Ezekiel english muffin spread with a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese. Hummus would have been preferable but we’re out

The soup was yucky. It tasted kind of sour and watery, and the english muffin was pretty boring, too.
This afternoon the kids wanted to go skating, so I took them to the roller rink that we used to go to when we were kids: White Rock Skate. This place is such a throwback. I’m pretty sure both Zach and I (and pretty much everyone else we knew) had birthday parties here at some point. It was also the place you hung out at on Friday and Saturday nights in junior high (Couples skate? Scandalous!). Anyway, it hasn’t changed ONE BIT, right down to the rental skates.
Brian ditched me again tonight for a work function. Sigh. He’s at Lone Star Park watching the horse races, so I was on my own for dinner. Usually I would hit up the Central Market salad or sushi bar, but I didn’t feel like driving all the way over there. Instead I had a turkey sandwich (roasted turkey, provolone, spinach, dijon, mayo and spicy pickles on ww) with these Food Should Taste Good Olive Chips:

I like the chips! They’re a little high-cal (140 calories for 10 chips) but I like the subtle olive flavor. Brian would never touch these- he is not a friend of the olive. I also had a cup of this V8 tomato soup:

It was okay- a little chunky, and it kind of tasted more like roasted red peppers than tomato.

I get really bored and restless sitting at home alone, and there was nothing good on tv. So instead I got in the car and drove to Ulta. I almost bought their house brand buttercream body wash- yum- but ended up with boring staples instead: Stila Tinted Moisturizer (stupid expensive but I love it and a tube lasts foreverrr), mascara and eye makeup remover.
I’ve been pretty bummed this week. Tomorrow I’m attending the memorial service for Amy Jones, a friend of mine/former co-worker/cube neighbor at Ziglar. Amy passed away last Friday from a really aggressive form of renal cell carcinoma. She was very young and the whole thing happened in a matter of a couple months. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve never met a more charismatic, motivated and giving person. Amy never met a stranger and lit up a room. To give you an idea of the type of person she was, Amy competed in several Miss Texas pageants, was a freakishly good ventriloquist (she shopped for her dummy, “Rusty,” in the toddler department of Foley’s- which for some reason seemed hilarious), published a book, spoke in front of crowds of thousands, and started a women’s ministry. She was also a master shopper (we spent many lunch breaks at the mall- girl could sniff out a bargain faster than anyone I’ve ever met) and even after she stopped working full-time at Ziglar would show up each Christmas with gifts for EVERYONE in the company. I’m not doing her justice and Tom Ziglar wrote an amazingly fitting blog post about Amy, so I’ll let you check that out here if you’re interested. It’s just a painful reminder that life is short and to never take our loved ones for granted.
Sorry to bum you guys out- that’s just been on my mind all week, so it felt good to get it out there.
Hope you all have a safe and happy weekend!

Weekend plans?
Nada, really. I may venture out to a food expo on Sunday… otherwise we’ll continue the office clean-out and hopefully just chillax.

Why are the good ones always taken away too young? I’m sorry for the loss you are experiencing
My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
Weekend plans? It’s sooo HOT out!! Uhhh!!! We’ll be thinking of ways to stay cool and indoors. I’m thinking something along the lines of mixed drinks and movies.
I’m so sorry Heather for the loss of your friend. I’m sorry for all of us that another amazing person was taken from us. Prayers for you and Amy’s family.
Sorry to hear about your friend.
Oh, and my weekend plans include a 6-year-old’s b-day party, a minor league baseball game, a friend’s b-day brunch, and lots of exercise to burn off the multitude of calories I’ll be consuming at all of these events.
I’m heading out on Sunday to float the river with the Spiral Diner gang
Aw, that’s sad…
