It’s Sunday night and we’re sitting in front of Family Guy. I swear, that show is on our tv more than any other- not that I’m complaining. I’m sleepy from a HOT, busy day.
-FRIDAY-
Friday was kind of a bummer. My mom and I met my dad for lunch at Jimmy John’s downtown. Does anyone else not get the JJ’s hype? Brian really likes it… I’m not really a fan. Not that it stopped me from downing a giant turkey-avocado sub. After lunch we headed to Dallas Baptist University for Amy’s funeral. It was sad and touching- Zig spoke and did a great job, they had a slide show featuring photos of Amy through the years (this part killed me), and Amy’s family took turns telling Amy stories during the post-memorial reception. Amy Jones is the only person I can think of who would have chosen a theme for her own funeral; all of her family and close friends were wearing bright aqua blue and chocolate brown. They even gave out decorated blue and brown fleur-de-lis sugar cookies that were gorgeous.
We didn’t get back from the funeral until almost 6pm. I was craving Mexican food so we headed to Mariano’s for dinner. I had the chicken fajita lights: grilled chicken with LOTS of veggies.

-SATURDAY-
I had to babysit from 6-8am and planned on going back to bed afterwards. Weirdly I wasn’t tired and ended up cleaning basically the entire house (and organizing our kitchen cabinets) before Brian and Chloe got out of bed. Crazy much? But it was nice to have that all done by noon.
It’s been ungodly hot already and it’s not even July. This evening the temp in my car read 113 degrees. This leaves you with two choices: stay inside, or swim. Thankfully my parents have a shady (like tree-shady, not sketchy-shady) pool so we headed over there yesterday afternoon to swim a few laps. Chloe was NOT a fan. She just ran back and forth along the edge of the pool barking her head off as we swam.
I’m a little embarassed about Saturday night’s dinner. There’s a chain of restaurants in the DFW area called Babe’s Chicken Dinner House (and also Bubba’s Chicken near SMU). You pay about $11 for your choice of several entrees (fried chicken, chicken tenders, smoked chicken, ribs, catfish, chicken fried steak or pot roast) and a bunch of sides. Oh, and it’s all-you-can-eat. Basically it’s true Southern food and it’s impossible to leave without feeling stuffed to the gills. Which we did. Ugh.
I had a smoked chicken breast and Brian had fried chicken. Check out the spread:

And one of my favorite desserts EVER: Banana pudding!

I loved the baked meringue topping.
Afterwards we ran to Target for a few random supplies and then came home and watched Bride Wars. It was cute and mindless, which was appropriate since we were both in food comas.
-SUNDAY-
When I woke up, Brian was gone and there was a note saying that he had gone out to get us breakfast. Always a nice surprise! He showed up a few minutes later with a Dunkin Donuts bag. Uh oh. Luckily he brought me one of the egg white and turkey sausage flatbreads… aaaand chocolate donuts. For the past week or so I’ve felt the baby “flutter” a few times at night, but it’s really subtle and never during the day. Well I ate one of the chocolate donuts and the kid went NUTS in there. Aww, a little sugar freak- just like his mama.
Brian watched the US soccer match this afternoon, so I went for a walk and then popped in the prenatal yoga DVD. It was a little mellow and new age-y (“Get in touch with the new life growing inside you!“) but I needed the stretch.
We made our first visit to the Knights of Columbus pool tonight with Julie, Kelly and their two kiddos. We had a lot of fun playing with Molly and Gabe in the pee pool baby pool- there were so many cute kids around! It made me excited for next summer. And the food is so stinking cheap! Five bucks for a hamburger, fries and a drink:

Afterwards I dragged Brian to TCBY. Love their chocolate-peanut butter hand scooped yogurt:

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I babysit tomorrow and then am off for the rest of the week. Oh, and we have our big 20 week (er, 18 wk) sono on Wednesday!
-SURVEY-
How are you managing to stay cool this summer?
Swimming, summer reading (inside) and lots of popsicles.

I don’t know how anyone is managing to stay cool. I had the most brilliant idea to do yard work at 2PM yesterday. Seriously, I must be losing my mind.
We whipped up a batch of margaritas on Saturday. That helped cool us down and made us VERY sleepy.
Is it bad that I’m craving ice cream now and it’s only 10 a.m.? Something to look forward to later, perhaps?
I keep making frozen fruit smoothies without milk to stay cool. I’m all about crushed ice!
You mentioned two of our faves in your w/e post – Mariano’s (the C-man and I hit the Hacienda on Skillman once a week) and Babe’s (definitely a guilty pleasure, about once every 6 months).
Upstairs A/C went out yesterday – keeping cool with many fans and sugar-free fudgsicles! Repairman comes today – hurrah!
I swim, drink green smoothies and wear loose clothing (loose as in not tight, not loose as in slutty).
Gah, thank you! I get such crap for not liking Jimmy John’s! I dont care for it either but will take a big ol’ Subway sub any day!
