Oooh, love me some old school Matchbox 20. Little known fact: In his high school/early college days, Brian bore a striking resemblance to Rob Thomas. But now he has a real job and a grown-up haircut, so no longer.
Anyway, today was a looooong, hot (104!) day. It started at 5:30 when I got up to go babysit. Luckily I realize that I’m pretty much non-functioning before 8am, so I went ahead and prepped breakfast last night. More overnight oats:

- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/2 cup vanilla almond breeze
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/2 sliced banana
- blueberries
- raspberries
- walnuts
Let that marinate overnight and then drizzled on some honey this morning.
The morning was spent dropping one of the kids off at camp, swimming, and watching some Scooby Doo. Lunch was, um, not so healthy. We met my mom at Coach’s Burgers in Lake Highlands. I had a turkey burger with pepperjack and avocado. Eh, at least it was on a wheat bun.

The fries were delicious.
This afternoon we made a return trip to good old White Rock Skate. I got a little misty when they played Thriller. Or not. Actually, I spent the good hour and a half we were there deleting photos off my camera. Literally over a THOUSAND photos of food. It’s ridiculous. If anyone ever found my camera and looked through the photos, they would think I had some kind of serious food porn addiction. Which I do… hence the blog.
Tonight was our monthly book club meeting, this time at Julie’s. We read Away by Amy Bloom. It wasn’t a BAD book- but one of those that sucks you in and then is basically a big let down at the end. Like the author got bored with the whole thing and just gave up.
But more importantly, the FOOD was great- of course.

We had a “picnic” theme: Fried chicken, fruit salad, banana pudding, sweet tea, caprese salad, “love dip” (from Central Market… I don’t know what’s in it, but it’s damn tasty), and my droopy little cobbler.

I’m off tomorrow- woohoo! I’m sure I’ll get all kinds of important stuff done. Like sleeping.

Weekend plans?
Friday night: I’m sure Brian’s planning a hot date as I type… and by “hot date,” I mean pizza from Tony’s and a Red Box movie. Probably ending something like this:

Saturday: Friend’s baby shower in the morning, possibly heading up to the lake in the afternoon.
Sunday: More cleaning out of the office/nursery. Dear God, it never ends.

We’re going to do our best to stay cool this weekend. Geez! Talk about HOT out!!
The fried chicken looks mighty fine!
I love the picnic theme for ya’lls book club! Very cute and yummy looking!
If ya’ll *don’t* end up going to the lake this weekend, give me a call….my dad is having a huge 50th birthday party at his house in Addison with catering, a band, etc. I’d love for you and Brian to stop by. I ran into Sean the other day, and he and Rozie might come too!
Anyways, have a great Friday!
I think my book club needs to incorporate more and better food at our meetings! Speaking of which, I think I need to read a book in like three days. Oops.
I would love to see pictures of Brian from that era… hehe
Oh wow – I always thought Brian looked familiar and now I know why! I hope he sings to you as well.
AHhhh our kitties sit on the back of the couch in the exact same place as yours! I LOVE it!
I can see the Rob Thomas resemblance, definitely!
Your meet up looks so fun!
It’s been so hot this weekend, right?! My plans include sweating more.
That pug is a little cutie!
