It’s good to be home! I feel like I’ve been running, running, running all day long. This morning I had my 22 weeks doctor’s appointment. Everything is great! I’m still measuring a couple of weeks ahead, which either means that Jack will be here earlier than expected or that we’re having a monster baby. We listened to the heartbeat and I got my nasty sugar drink for next month’s glucose test. Oh, and my doctor said that she just filmed an episode of A Baby Story for TLC! I used to watch that show (and A Wedding Story, and A Dating Story) all the time in college. Apparently they told her that they’re looking for more Dallas couples for the show…
I’m really digging these Cinnamon Quaker Oatmeal Squares. They stay pretty crunchy in milk. This bowl was equal parts blueberries and cereal. We had a bunch of berries in the fridge that were getting a little too ripe.

Brian couldn’t make this appointment, so my mom tagged along. It was helpful because she could harass the doctor with all of the questions that are usually aimed at me (most recently: “You should NOT be running!” and “Go get a flu shot!”). Coincidentally my dad had a doctor’s appt at the same time, so we met him for lunch afterwards at Cindi’s Deli. I had the veggie omelet with egg whites, which came with home fries and a wheat bagel. It’s amazing how much food they give you. I probably had 3/4 of the omelet and half of the bagel.

This evening we had a cocktail party for Brian’s firm. I was tempted to sneak in my camera for pics of the spread, but figured that I embarrass him enough on a daily basis. My favorites were the tiny stuffed fingerling potatoes, pork tenderloin sandwiches, and the brownies.
But unfortunately, cocktail snacks does not a dinner make (at least for the preggo harboring thunderbaby), so at home I noshed on a slice of our leftover chicken and roasted tomato pizza in front of Top Chef Masters.

This mis en place challenge is great! I’m pretty sure I could handle the egg separating, onion chopping and chicken butchering- but would be SOL on the oysters.

What intimidates you in the kitchen? Chopping? Grilling? Sauces? Souffles?
Me: Sadly, pancakes. It’s ridiculous but I always burn them.

I feel like I’m pretty confident in the kitchen… with the huge exception of rice. I cannot make decent rice. At all. Quite tragic actually.
Kitchen what kitchen….
P.S. A friend was asked to do the TV show, but declined. She is due right now. We are just waiting.
I am intimidated by anything that rises. I have made bread, pizza dough, etc. but I am always holding my breath.
Any kind of baking intimidates me – I always end up effing it up somehow.
That would be so cool to be on a Baby Story! I can’t stand most of the Moms on there – especially the ones that are having their 80th kid. The newbie, young moms are always the best!
I had never shucked an oyster before my first day at Dovetail. I was so terrified, it’s really easy to stab your hand. It took me about 2 hours to do 100, but by the end of the 2nd week I could do 100 in 30 minutes or less.
Rice is the one thing that gets me too. Luckily there are at least 3 Asian takeout places on every block in new york, so I run downstairs for rice in 5 minutes flat!
I can’t/won’t do eggs. They just don’t come out for me.
I’m terrified of spices. I wish we’d get along better.
