Tasty Bite

We had some insane storms this morning. At about 6am it looked like daylight in our bedroom from the lightning. I ran to the computer to check and make sure we didn’t have a tornado heading towards us. Thankfully no, but Fort Worth was under a warning. Brian and Chloe managed to snooze through it all… amazing.

Couldn’t make up my mind for breakfast this morning. I had a tiny bit of plain Stonyfield yogurt left in the carton, so I scraped it out and mixed with Quaker Cinnamon Oatmeal Squares, blueberries, almonds, and drizzles of almond butter and honey.

(I just went to download the photo and it’s NOT THERE… oooooh creepy)

I’m tearing through milk these days. It’s ridiculous-like a quart in 2 days, and I’m the only one in the house who actually drinks it. I decided to run to Whole Foods to replenish the moo juice and browse around for a bit. Ended up with a bunch of basics (sliced almonds, lentils, PB Puffins, Mojo bars, Ezekiel tortillas, tofu, bananas). This was probably the most exciting find:

oikos

Four-pack of Oikos! I think it was $4.99. Not a steal by any stretch, but not terrible either. Why is Greek yogurt so expensive (and so delicious)?

Got home to unload groceries and found this in our hamper:

piper

I don’t know what that’s all about. Maybe she fell in? She may still be in there…

After Whole Foods I was running late to meet my mom, so I put together a to-go lunch to take to her house. It was one of those unplanned meals that managed to taste delicious- thanks to this little guy:

I made a Mediterranean wrap with the kalamata hummus, baby spinach, leftover grilled chicken and roasted marinated tomatoes, rolled in an Ezekiel tortilla:

Wrapped up with some Salt & Vinegar Popchips and baby carrots:

Whole Foods had a coupon for these Tasty Bite Indian entrees ($1 off/2 pkgs). I had a meeting tonight and figured they would be a good, quick dinner option. We tried the Bombay Potatoes:

And the Basmati Rice:

TBrice

Plus some Whole Foods Whole Wheat Naan.

All in all they weren’t bad. I topped it with a scoop of Oikos:

The potatoes are 100 cals/serving, with a purported 2 servings per box. Yeah… I could have eaten the whole thing EASILY. Luckily we had a split rotisserie chicken, too- otherwise this would not have been enough for a meal. The rice was done in 90 seconds and tasted pretty good. The potatoes took all of 2 minutes in the microwave. They had a good amount of cumin but definitely needed salt. The nutrition info on these meals is pretty impressive, but next time I’ll buy TWO boxes. Has anyone else tried these? What other flavors should we buy? I was eyeing the Madras Lentils.

I have to surrender the computer to Brian now so he can post our old entertainment center/armoire on Craig’s List. Hey, tomorrow’s Friday- woohoo!

Oh, and before I forget: Be sure to check out Eddie’s post on City of Ate re: a new “cereal bar” that opened up in the DFW area. Exciting! Now where exactly is The Colony??

What’s your favorite cereal?

My sister in law was drinking an insane amount of milk too.

The 4 pack is actually a good deal for me. They are like 1.99 @ WF here.

I’m rediscovering my love for PB puffins. They’re so good fresh out of the bag

Honey Nut Cheerios tied with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Apparently my breakfast taste buds are stuck in elementary.
