Leafy Greens

I may have a new favorite show. Has anyone watched “King of the Crown” on TLC? Oh my god- hilarious!! Now we’re on to Top Chef… aaand I’m pretty sure that Toby Young just quoted Clueless.

Total pregnant lady breakfast this morning. We had one lonely little piece of pumpkin gooey butter cake in the fridge, so I ended up having that with a giant glass of milk. Vegetable and dairy = balanced meal.

My mom called and asked if I wanted to have lunch at Sweet Tomatoes. Yes.

It was 100% better than last night’s Souper Salad trip. I had a big green salad with basil vinaigrette (thumbs-up on the dressing), turkey chili and some broccoli-raisin and carrot-raisin salad.

Afterwards we ran across the street to DSW and my sweet mom bought me some slippers- these- to pack in my hospital bag. I may or may not be wearing them right this minute. If they have rubber soles, that means that you can wear them outside of the house, right? Because I might not take these off. Ever.

How crazy is it that I’m 8 months pregnant tomorrow??? Today I ran to JoAnne’s for some Halloween “yard art” (as Brian gags… I love Halloween) and the cashier was like, “Your baby is hanging out on the right side, isn’t he? Your stomach looks lopsided.”

Awesome. I don’t really care where he hangs out, as long as he flips over in the next couple of weeks. Head down feet up, kid.

Snack was a gala apple with cinnamon raisin PB:

Dinner was inspired by a recipe from that Country Living magazine I mentioned yesterday. See? I told you it was a good one. I sauteed some baby bella mushrooms in olive oil, then set them aside. Heated up a little more olive oil in the pan and sauteed 1/4 of a chopped red onion and 2 minced garlic cloves. Once the onions softened, I added a bunch of chopped kale and sauteed until wilted. Then added the mushrooms back into the pan and added about 1/2 cup of white wine. Simmered until the wine reduced by half, then added a splash of heavy cream, a pinch of nutmeg, and salt and pepper.

Cooked some whole wheat penne, drained, then put it back in the pot. Added the kale mixture to the pasta, topped with lots of freshly grated parmesan and tossed to mix.

DELICIOUS. I’d never thought to combine kale and pasta, but this definitely worked.

Hope everyone had a good day!! Off to bed I go…

Do you decorate for Halloween?

Yes. Brian thinks it’s ridiculous… though oddly enough he’s not complaining about the consistent stash of candy corn.

I like to buy pumpkins and lots of Halloween candy. That’s about as far as I go.

I love king of crowns – it’s so trashy but so hilarious!

We decorate – we have pumpkins and fake leaves around the house. My hubs thinks it’s crazy.

Asking if I decorate for Halloween is like asking if there are stars in the sky – OF COURSE! Chad and Brian must be talking, he thinks it’s dumb. He also thinks that I am a holiday junkie and that I will use any holiday for an excuse to decorate and have a theme party. Which is so not true…there was one Columbus Day where I made Chewy a t-shirt that said, “I Heart the Nina, Pinta & the Santa Maria” but whatever.

We definitely have some decorations up around the house but have yet to make it to the pumpkin patch this year. We’re a huge fan of the Halloween candy, plus popcorn + candy corn = delicious.

  5. I don’t do a ton of Halloween decorating. I like to use pumpkins and maybe one or two other items if I find something cute.

  6. Evan Thomas says:

We put out silly pumpkins and hay, it’s cutesy I guess.

  9. I don’t decorate for halloween, but I love the season surrounding it. I told The Boy that I wanted to carve a pumpkin this year for the walkway up to our door :-)
