Flip Baby Flip

Ohhh, drama day!! This morning we had my 38 week appointment and I was all excited for the ultrasound. We get into the u/s room, the tech flips on the monitor and immediately informs us that Jack is STILL BREECH… and he’s already estimated at 7lbs 15oz… aaaand my amniotic fluid is low. Bad, bad and more bad. I pretty much freaked. We’ve been so lucky up to this point that nothing has gone wrong. It’s been the most boring- in a good way- pregnancy you could ever hope for. We met with the OB after the ultrasound, and she said that attempting an external version (attempting to turn him manually) wasn’t safe given his size and the low fluid level. Fine with me because that’s apparently super painful. So as of right now, the goal is to “take it easy and stay off my feet” for the next week to try and get the fluids back up and see if he’ll turn on his own. If not then we’ve already scheduled the c-section for the Monday after Thanksgiving.

So there you have it. I really, REALLY don’t want a c-section for a number of reasons… so let’s keep our fingers crossed that Jack decides to flip between now and my appt next week!!

Anyway, after the appointment my mom took me to Target to stock up on some food and magazines so I wouldn’t have to leave the couch. How sweet is that? I didn’t have time to eat breakfast before the appointment, so afterwards I made a little snack plate of cheese, crackers and a honeycrisp:

It just occured to me that I ate three apples today. Nice.

Once lunchtime rolled around, I zapped a can of this Progresso High Fiber Minestrone:

Topped with grated parmesan, with a few wheat crackers:

The soup was pretty good. I think it was around 110 cals per serving (so 220 for the can) and 7 g fiber. It tasted pretty much like the regular Progresso Minestrone.

I suck at the whole “bed rest” thing. Hanging out on the couch sounds like an awesome idea until someone tells you that you HAVE to do it. I managed to make a dent in the thank you notes, read an issue of Real Simple, and sit through several highly educational TV shows: Dog Whisperer, 18 Kids and Counting, Baby Story, Oprah (topic: the porn industry!), and a few Office reruns. Chloe, on the other hand, loved having a couch buddy.

By the time Brian got home at 7 I was going a little stir crazy. For dinner we heated up last night’s leftover spaghetti:

Along with a giant salad topped with Annie’s Woodstock Dressing:

Oooh- Brian found this hot cocoa at the store and I’m kind of loving it. It’s Mexican hot chocolate, so it has a hint (actually more than a hint) of cinnamon along with the chocolate flavor. Definitely worth checking out:

Okay, off to bed. Thoughts and prayers for a head-down baby!

What would you do with a week of bed rest? Read? TV? Surf the web?

I need some ideas to keep me sane- book/movie/website suggestions are welcomed!!

Hi, Heather – I’m a long-time reader but first time commenter :) I so enjoy reading your blog everyday– it’s on my list of morning “must reads”! I am definitely thinking positive thoughts for you and Baby Jack :) Hang in there with the bed rest (sounds like you’ll have some friends to distract you!)– A book that I just finished recently was “A Million Miles in a Thousand Years” by Donald Miller– I thought it was phenomenal, and I highly reccommend it.

a week of bed rest would let me catch up on the tv shows I sometimes miss durng the week! Oh and MAJOR blog surfing :) I also love going to recipe websites and checking out these new holiday recipes!

  8. Evan Thomas says:

If I had to rest that much, I might actually read the 3 magazines I bought but haven’t gotten around to.
Hope everything works out for Jack!

  9. Jill says:

Fingers crossed that Jack flips soon! If you need anything let me know! I’m more than willing to make the drive from Frisco, er, Oklahoma! Hang in there…you’re getting SSSOOOO CLOSE!

  11. Sammie says:

Hang in there Mama!! I wish I lived closer so I could be part of Team Take Care of Heather. Sounds like you have a great support group.
I would not last 5 minutes on the couch. At least you are getting lots of rest before baby Jack makes his debut. Think of this as the lull before the storm. Give me a ring if you just need to chat.
sending you lots of bloggy hugs

  12. Melissa S. says:

oh, i hope baby-boy flips soon so you have no more worries!

and i suggest netflix…tv shows and movies in one!

otherwise, food websites are always fun to browse:

  13. Andrea says:

My friend Katie had the same thing happen to her, and the baby ended up turning at the last possible moment and she avoided a c-section. Fingers crossed jack will do the same for you!

  14. Tammy says:

Kids. What are you gonna do? I am SURE Jack will turn around, BUT just in case he doesn’t I have had three c-sections and they aren’t that bad (none of that labor business) :)
Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!!

  15. kathy says:

Hoping that Jack turns his little butt around and makes his mama happy!!

My blog-of-choice recommendation for you would be:

Enjoy this time! These moments to yourself will be rare indeed in the coming months/years, only to be replaced by equally wonderful moments with your new little bundle! ;)
