Brief This

I have a bone to pick with the Dallas Morning News. We don’t subscribe to the newspaper because:

  1. It’s a waste of paper.
  2. We read the news online, and…
  3. We’re cheap.

A year or two ago, the DMN started automatically delivering a free paper called The Briefing. It’s basically just a very condensed version of the regular newspaper, plus a bunch of ads. We NEVER read this thing (and neither do any of our neighbors, from the looks of things)… it piles up in our yard every Wednesday through Saturday until we get tired of looking at the mess and toss the whole bunch, unopened, into the recycling bin. Basically it turned into the bane of our existence. Several months ago Brian had the brilliant idea to “unsubscribe” us from The Briefing. Notice I said MONTHS ago. Yet look what was in our yard this morning… x3:

OH. MY. GOD. Is there like a Do Not Call List for junk mail??? This is ridiculous.

Anyway, enough of my ranting. Breakfast this morning was a whole wheat Oroweat Sandwich Thin with crunchy PB, apple butter and a sliced banana. And glorious, glorious coffee!

Oh, how I missed you. Decaf was just not the same.

Jack and I took a nice looooong walk around the neighborhood this morning. He slept through the whole 3 miles so I didn’t feel too badly about popping in my iPod. It was so great to get out and get some exercise, though it’s depressing to realize how out of shape I am. This time last year I was running a marathon… and now I break a sweat pushing a stroller around the block. Sweet.

While Jack supervised from his swing, I threw together a quick lunch: chickpea-tuna salad with crackers.

The salad was just a can of tuna mixed with 1/2 cup chickpeas and 1 Tbs capers. Over that I drizzled a vinaigrette of olive oil, red wine vinegar, cumin, garlic powder, salt and pepper (and a little caper juice).

None of my winter clothes fit right now, so once Brian got home we bundled Jack up and headed to Old Navy.  Jack was so good that we decided to just grab dinner at the Galleria. I can’t believe that Christmas is just over a week away!!!!!

We had dinner at Five Guys. I had a “Little Cheeseburger” and we split an order of fries.

Good stuff. Tomorrow Jack and I both have doctor’s appointments, so hopefully he’ll give us a break and sleep a little more tonight (doubtful). Hope everyone’s having a good week!

Is Five Guys good? We always think about eating there, but never do.

I’ve never heard of chickpeas and tuna but I like the idea, mostly because I have both canned right now and am running out of food ideas until I’m out of this dorm for the holidays

I LOVE Five Guys…best quick burgers & fries. Love the cajun seasoning.

Don’t get discouraged – while yes, you were running a marathon, you also didn’t have a whole person surgically removed from yourself. You’ll get there :)

    ohhh…those fries look great!

and i’m sure you’ll be back to your pre-preggers self in no time!

O.M.G. I have had the same problem with the Briefing. There is a number on the front page that says if you wish to unsubscribe (hell, yeah) please call this number. Which I did.
3 times. Each time supposedly they took my address off the mailing. Right. It disappears for a while and then returns. It is THE most annoying thing.

Give yourself a break. It’s only been two weeks AND you had surgery. I think you are doing wonderfully well, with everything. :)

I suggest that we collect all the briefings we receive post-cancellation (and can even add in those from fellow unwilling subscribers like Tammy). Then, we periodically bring a box-full of briefings to the DMN offices and pour them out in the lobby. Then we leave.

  7. Mary Anne says:

I am so glad to hear Jack is gaining weight do Brian can help with the feedings!!

  8. Jocelyn says:

I wouldn’t worry too much about not being able to run a marathon just yet :) You had a BABY…that beats a marathon in my books lol
