Birthday #2

So how many of you are taking Friday off? If so, I hope you’re currently enjoying sunshine and margaritas and some type of water- pool, lake, whathaveyou.

Today was another good day. Jack was up at 5 and then went back to sleep until 8:45 or so… then we spent the rest of the morning just hanging out. For breakfast I had plain yogurt with blueberries, granola and honey.

Afterward Jack took the longest nap EVER. Like 2 1/2 hours. I needed to grab a few things at Target and was kicking myself for not going pre-nap. I ended up picking up around the house and finishing our book club book (Little Bee- great but sad). Then Chloe and I just stared at each other for a while. I threw together a quick lunch of leftover pork loin sandwich from La Duni and Monday night’s leftover salad.

For Valentine’s Day my awesome friend Kate sent a package that included these amazing cookie dough truffles. Actually there was just one truffle inside, and after I ate it I couldn’t wait to make a batch myself. So with another birthday celebration upon us, I finally had a reason!!!

They’re not too hard to make. A little time consuming- you assemble the cookie dough (sans eggs), refrigerate, roll into balls, freeze, then coat in chocolate.

SO GOOD. You should make them right now.

Tonight was birthday celebration #2: Happy hour at Times Ten Cellars. It rained at first…

But eventually cleared up, thank goodness. We had a great time!

And Brian brought cupcakes from The Cupcakery.

Don’t even ask me what kind because there were too many and I forget. I just know I had part of a chocolate cupcake with PB frosting and a lemon cupcake with blueberry frosting.

Afterward Brian had to go to a work function, but I dragged Joy, Chip & Jill (and later Bobby) to Scalini’s for dinner. Scalini’s has my favorite pizza in Dallas, and Joy figured out the perfect topping combo: Ricotta, sun-dried tomatoes and spinach.

The most interesting part of the meal was bruschetta with pecan-jalapeno pesto. SO GOOD.

On a side note, I think I have to return my new camera :( I tried using it today and it keeps giving me a “busy” message. After an hour of the busy signal, I figured that there was a problem. So sad. But hopefully it’s just a quirk with this camera and I’ll be able to get a functional one tomorrow.

Happy Memorial Day!

It’s last minute, but we are going to see if friends want to stop over this weekend for cocktails. Most will probably be at the lake, but for those that are still in town…come on down…

I always hear the best things about Scalini’s yet we’ve never been. It’s on my list for sure!
