Who has two thumbs and refused to nap today?
I was so convinced that he was going to take a monster nap, too. As I mentioned, we hosted the playgroup today… and you would think that 10 babies doesn’t sound like a lot.
Ten babies is a lot.
But it was all good. It’s so funny- when we first started attending playgroups in the early fall, these kids just rolled around on the floor while the mamas chatted. Now it’s a whole different ballgame. Running around, throwing toys, stealing food from each other. Oh, they grow up so fast!!
I made pumpkin muffins for the occasion. The recipe is from Smitten Kitchen, though of course I added chocolate chips (and walnuts).
Once Jack’s buddies left, I looked in the fridge and realized that we had nothing for lunch. Just one sad, little potato.
Baked and topped with sour cream, cheese and salsa. It ain’t pretty, but it did the job.
My mom watched Jack this afternoon and he refused to nap for her, too. Fortunately he stayed surprisingly chipper. That probably had something to do with the fact that she brought him a giant bag of Cheetos.
I think I mentioned that my brother gave us a bunch of deer meat for Christmas- summer sausage, steaks and ground venison. Tonight I browned some of the ground meat and used it to make chili. I used my veggie chili recipe as a guide but changed it up a lot (only used 1 can of black beans instead of 2, added a half bottle of Shiner, obviously skipped the soy crumbles). It was a very fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants process; a little brown sugar, some cocoa powder, lots of cumin, a few shakes of Chipotle Tabasco and Liquid Smoke…
Venison is very lean (which I loved), and it didn’t taste game-y at all.
On the side: massaged kale salad with olive oil, lemon juice, kosher salt, grape tomatoes and avocado.
Bed is calling my name VERY loudly. I am wiped out. Catch you guys tomorrow!
