So November book club has just adjourned. So much fun… and SO MANY good things to eat. Everyone really brought their A-game this month.
Jill’s Armadillo Eggs: Sausage stuffed with cream cheese and jalapenos. I ate 20.
Cayla’s Cheesecake-Stuffed Strawberries:
And, not pictured, Society Bakery whoopie pies (Lauren), spinach-artichoke dip (Camille), pumpkin dump cake (which was really good, btw- definitely serve it chilled), baked ziti, garlic bread and salad. I love book club.
In case you’re wondering, we read Left Neglected by Lisa Genova. It’s a really good, easy read.
So I have to share my latest design project. A long time ago- like over 2 years- Brian and I were at some junk store in Gun Barrel City (I can’t make this up) and ran across a wooden frame. I think it was $3.
We ended up buying the frame with no idea what to actually do with it. So it sat in the garage for 2 years.
We’ve had a big blank wall behind our dining room table since we moved in, but every mirror I found was either too $$ or not quite right style-wise. So… enter the frame…
I ended up just painting the inner rim with a glossy black acrylic, then used a tack hammer to push silver tacks into the canvas border to mimic nailheads (love nailheads!). We took it to a local glass shop and had them cut and glue a mirror. And so:
Not too shabby, right?? I feel like our dining room is finally looking like a decorated, “adult” house.
And lest you think we actually have a decorated, “adult” house- allow me to show you the view from the opposite wall… trains, basketball goal, overflowing basket of kid books, drawing table with pastel chairs, activity pad that he has way outgrown yet still plays with…
Oh well. I’m not going to rush it; the toys can stay. The balloons, however, have GOT to go… we currently have 2 balloons randomly floating around our house and THREE in my car. Not the safest driving conditions.
