Sweet & Salty

I love giving homemade (edible, obviously) gifts for Christmas, but it’s tricky because you can’t exactly prepare them ahead of time… meaning you do NOT want to be anywhere near this house Friday evening. I will probably be mid-meltdown, covered in flour, with a sink full of crusty dishes. Needless to say, I get really excited when I run across a holiday recipe that can be made ahead of time. And by “ahead of time,” I mean at 11pm when you’ve just gotten home from a late night IKEA & Target run for last minutes Christmas presents.

Like this one:

Pretzel + Kiss + M&M. As if it’s not embarrassing enough how SIMPLE it is, the recipe comes straight from Disney Family Fun magazine… meaning that it’s intended to be a treat that you make with your toddler. Or your 30 year old husband. We’ll take bets on who eats the most supplies.

Just place waffle-shaped pretzels on a parchment-lined cookie sheet, top with a Hershey Kiss (or a Hug, but stupid Target was sold out of them) and bake for about 5-6 minutes at 170 degrees. Remove cookie sheet and then quickly place an M&M on top of each Kiss. Let cool for a few minutes, then place in refrigerator for 10 minutes.

The hardest part is keeping the pretzels on the cookie sheet when putting in/taking out of the oven. We had a few fallen soldiers.

Can’t beat the salty & sweet combo.

Is everyone else’s Christmas week this insane??? I’m really hoping for a moment to just sit, relax and enjoy the holiday. Still more presents to buy, gifts to wrap, cards to send out. Someday I’ll be the organized person who has all of this covered by Thanksgiving… someday…

I think I am making this week insane for myself. I kept piling on the homemade gifts I wanted to give (“Oh! I should give one to Jenny!” or “Oh! I should make homemade bath salts for ALL of my coworkers!”) WTF, seriously? Am I insane? YES.

I remember these little buggers you’re making. I made something similar back in the day. It was fun, creative and delicious to eat :)

Good luck Friday. You will not be alone.

I’m right there with you. I’m in countdown mode to Christmas with not enough days left. Gotta try these though, too cute and sound wonderful.
