We kicked our Valentine’s Day off right with a trip to the pediatrician and a diagnosis of pink eye AND an ear infection! I went in to get Jack up this morning and the poor kid couldn’t open either eye. It was pretty much the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. He was so sweet and cuddly while we sat there for 10 minutes trying to get them un-matted.
On a happier note, I’m SO relieved to have him on antibiotics and eye drops. After one dose the eyes already look 10x better. And fortunately my 2 year old is much better at taking medicine than his mother.
Because of the pink eye, we had to miss Jack’s playgroup Valentine’s party. So, so bummed. Luckily Kira & Luna stopped by to pick up the “cards” and cookies we made for his friends:
(How freaking cute are those ball Valentines? So perfect for a little boy. I got the printable off of Pinterest, of course. And the red velvet cookies are actually from Bakerella’s Red Velvet Sandwich Cookie recipe… just not, you know, sandwiched. They’re really easy to make and perfect for when you have a red velvet + cream cheese frosting craving.)
Luckily, Jack’s steady Valentine didn’t seem to care about the eye:
Brian and I tag teamed dinner tonight. I made the sides… bacon-green bean bundles that were TO DIE FOR (recipe here). You brush them with a brown sugar/butter/garlic mixture before baking:
And Pioneer Woman’s crash potatoes, topped with kosher salt, garlic powder and rosemary:
And Brian prepared the steaks. Perfect!
My Valentine knows me well: Tulips, Miles of Chocolate and a giant Sonic drink. Awww.
Of course Jack did not go empty-handed:
Crayons, a new Chuggington train, book, stickers, trail mix, bathtub stickies, an alligator that grows 600% over a week in water (where do I put this?? The bathtub?). Of course half of the goodies are already scattered around the house…
Hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day!
