When I was in middle school, my dad would drive me to school and we would often stop at a random little bagel place at Plano Road and LBJ. It was called Grill and Deli Stop (creative!) and the owner was this intimidating Russian lady who called me “Little American Girl.”
The bagels were good, but I think the last time I stopped there was around senior year of high school. At some point they shut down, but recently we noticed that the building was being painted this really weird orange-y shade and a sign was posted that said, “FireXBox- Sushi and hibachi coming soon!!”
Honestly, we were sketched out. The place is TINY and the last time I went in it was pretty run down.
They opened a few weeks ago and we’ve gradually been hearing good things- good prices, very clean, great sushi (check out the Yelp! reviews here). So we decided to give it a try for dinner tonight.
Honestly, I was really impressed! The sushi rolls are CHEAP. Most are $3.79, unless you do something fancy like a rainbow roll. That will run you $6.79. We ended up getting an order of the steak hibachi, white meat chicken hibachi, and tuna, salmon and Cali rolls.
Way too much food for the three of us. I was really impressed with the chicken hibachi. It comes with sauteed mushrooms, broccoli, onions and potatoes (I actually think they may have been french fries) and tastes really fresh. Not greasy at all. The steak was good but I liked the chicken better.
Yeah, I ate all that.
According to Brian (he picked up the food), they have a pretty nice dining room and at least 1 high chair. I’m just stoked to have some decent, affordable sushi nearby. We usually end up just picking it up from Central Market or waiting for a date night to go to Blue Fish.
The name cracks me up- Fire X-Box? FireXBox? Fire (times) Box? I don’t know. But I do recommend checking it out because I’m all about supporting Lake Highlands businesses, and this place is really good. You can read more on their website here.
Hope everyone has a great weekend! Tomorrow night we’re headed to Nosh for Restaurant Week and then to the Old 97′s show at House of Blues. Date night two weekends in a row??? What?
