Chill

This weekend marked the first time in forever that I’ve actually been cold. I used to freeze wherever we went- to the point where I always carried a sweater in the car. But pregnancy hormones + Texas heat means that for the past 12ish months I’ve just been generally hot and sweaty and gross. Both last night when we were grabbing frozen yogurt after dinner and this morning at breakfast I was FREEZING, and I’m pretty excited about it. Plus today it was cool and rainy, so you know what that means…

CHILI! Pumpkin Turkey Chili (recipe here) to be more specific. I love this recipe because it’s full of veggies- onions, peppers, tomatoes, pumpkin- and doesn’t take all that long to put together. I changed it up a little by substituting diced butternut squash for the sweet potatoes. I also added a bottle of Sam Adams pumpkin ale to thin it out a little, and a tsp of cocoa powder for flavor. The recipe makes enough that you should have plenty of leftovers, too.

Isla is going through this super fun (NO) stage where she screams anytime we go anywhere. In the car, at restaurants, at playdates. She’s happy as a little clam at home, which almost makes it more frustrating. This IS a phase, right? This weekend she screamed through my entire MOPs meeting Friday morning, dinner at Mariano’s on Friday night, our PTA kickoff party on Saturday, brunch this morning, oh and always always always in the car… we just have to take turns consoling her. I don’t feel like Jack was like this, but maybe he was and I’ve just blocked it out.

Anyway, some more pics from our weekend. When she wasn’t screaming, I mean.

(Not impressed- we had to buy a seasonal 12 pack to get this flavor, and you can’t really taste the caramel apple at all.)

I wasn’t impressed with Blue Moon’s pumpkin either. Shiner Bock’s pumpkin, on the other hand, is fabulous!

Yep. Right there with the screaming. I hate being stuck at home, but I can’t stand the baby screaming in his carseat!

Screaming in the car is non bene – been there, done that, and glad it’s over. I am sure it is a phase, hopefully a short lived one!
