Meatless

I just shouldn’t be allowed to watch TV. Right now Brian and I are currently engrossed in a My Strange Addiction about a lady who is addicted to butt injections. And before that it was a couple who spends 5 hours per day giving themselves coffee enemas. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME??? I drew the line at the woman who couldn’t stop eating cat hair. And by drawing the line, I mean dry heaving and running out of the room.

(Moral: If it’s weird, I will watch it.)

So anyway. I was trying to be a good Catholic and stick to the no meat thing for Ash Wednesday, so lunch was a creative process. Oh, and I gave up dairy for Lent, too, so no mac & cheese. We had hummus and a bunch of veggies, so I cooked one of our Trader Joe’s garlic naan and made a little improvised flatbread pizza: hummus, baby kale, chopped tomatoes, kalamatas and a balsamic drizzle.

Not a bad meal! Once the oven heated up it just took a few minutes to make (the naan only cooks for about 2 minutes).

Today was pretty busy- the kids and I took a school tour this morning, then I made dinner to bring to a friend who just had a baby, plus we had to make an impromptu trip to the grocery store to get some baby prunes for Isla (ugh, don’t ask), and of course our Candy Land championship:

So to keep things simple, we just grabbed dinner at Alligator Cafe. We try to avoid that place from Thursday-Saturday because they have live music and it is crazy LOUD (yes, I’m 80). But guess what?? They have music on Wednesdays now, too! Hooray! No. Oh well, my shrimp creole was good, and Isla actually seemed to like all the noise.

Happy early Valentine’s Day!! Any fun plans?

Have you tried giving Isla 2 oz. of water one to two times a day? That seems to help Tom.

I’ll try that- I gave her some diluted apple juice but she would only take an ounce. Maybe she’ll like plain water better.
