Another fabulous family weekend that went by TOO FAST. I feel like I was just sitting on the couch, playing with Isla and waiting for Brian to get home from work on Friday, and now it’s after 10 on Sunday.
We didn’t do a whole lot this weekend. Met friends for dinner at Mariano’s, which is becoming our Friday night tradition. It just feels right to kick off the weekend with Mexican food, you know? Saturday we ran errands, bought some new sheets and curtains for our bedroom, I squeezed in a run, then we grabbed dinner at Tukta Thai, our neighborhood Thai restaurant. A few things I love about Tukta Thai: They have awesome high chairs, Jack will actually eat the food, AND it’s BYOB.
Holla. Look at Squish in the background, being all cute. Oh yeah, the food is great, too. I love the chicken with broccoli, carrots, cilantro and black pepper (EN4 on the menu).
Today was gorgeous and I managed to head out for another run while Brian worked on this French Apple Cake.
He’s trying to replicate an apple custard cake that we used to order at Edelweiss, a restaurant in Staunton, VA, during our college days. Hubby can hang drapes AND bake. What what!
For lunch today we tried a new restaurant in our neighborhood, Lake House Bar and Grill. We sat outside- which was a little windy, but Isla had on her sweet owl hat to keep her ears warm and Jack was entertained by all of the dogs on the cool patio, so it was all good.
They don’t have a kids menu, but we ordered the mac and cheese appetizer for Jack and it was gooooood. I had the grilled chicken sandwich (- cheese, + bacon) and loved the ciabatta bun.
Jack snagged like 70% of those fries. It’s a fun place. They have a huge bar and great drink selection, but there were also lots of kiddos running around. The employees were extremely helpful and nice, and one of the owners came by to introduce himself and ask for suggestions/critiques. Love that. Always excited for new restaurants in the neighborhood! Go check it out soon!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Edelweiss!!!
Dude. You seriously make me miss the food in Dallas…but it would be BAD for my diet. Still, I cant wait to move back! Plus also, can we talk about how Isla is a spitting image of Jack?! Total twinsies!
