So I officially made the worst dinner ever tonight.
I had high hopes, too. I found this recipe on Pinterest for crock pot tortellini with sausage. It’s all over the interwebs, too- just Google it. And everyone RAVES about how amazing it is, best crock pot meal ever, blah blah blah. Apparently I’m slow cooker challenged or something because mine was horrendous.
The ingredients were promising! Turkey Italian sausage, frozen tortellini (it called for plain cheese but I used spinach/cheese), diced tomatoes, fresh spinach, cream cheese and chicken broth.
You brown the sausage and then throw everything into the crock pot on low for 5 hours.
Ummmmmm. Mine looks absolutely nothing like any of the other pics. Why??? I know what the problem was and should have anticipated this from the get-go. You can’t cook pasta for 5 hours, because the starches break down and you get mush + glue. No discernible pasta in there. The flavor was great but the texture was so very, very gross. Both of the kids just looked at me like, “What the hell is this?”
So Isla had yogurt and Jack had 2 mushrooms and some hummus instead.
Honestly, I’ll probably try making this again. But. BUT… next time I will wait and add the tortellini maybe 30 minutes before the timer goes off? Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Anyone else had luck with this recipe?
